Quick note on my group's experience last weekend with the Great Sailing Fishing Company -- first of all, they have an appropriate name for their business. The fishing down there in Guatemala – for sailfish (pez vela) , dorado and marlin is just unbelievable. As well as the fishing , what made the trip was the turn key approach to local ground transportation, lodging, meals, boats, crew (but especially the fishing). It was all nothing short of outstanding. Having Les at the dock each morning set the tone for the day and the attentiveness to detail from those that we came in contact was excellent. Francesco (the fish whisperer) and Nato were probably the best team I have ever fished with. Their passion to catch and willingness to teach were great. The sailfish were practically jumping in the boat ! Mr K.G. fished with us in Guatemala twice this season.

Guatemala holds many official (and unofficial !) records for Pacific Sailfish including most in a day on conventional (124) and on the fly (57)...as well as most in a season..................so there is clearly no shortage of action !

Everything was great for the fishing. Crew was excellent and very quick, Captain was also excellent. Fishing gear was great. Both Captain and crew were cooperative when we wanted to hook up our own sailfish (we didn't dare hook up the marlin) even though both we and they knew that we were not as good as the mates at doing it. The fishing was "slow" for Guatemala , but we still had a great time, releasing 20 sailfish in 4 days with a few dorado and bonito thrown in. We enjoyed Antigua very much, also. We were thrilled and amazed to be so well cared for from beginning to end on this trip by both you and the Great Sailfishing Company.

Flyfishing and conventional tackle are both accommodated on our fleet of Bertram sportfishing boats. The Marina Pez Vela has sheltered the fishing fleet in Guatemala from the wind but not the rain. The sailfishing in the summer season has been even better than in past years - and complemented by some fantastic dorado fishing on light tackle and fly-fishing gear.
The Fishing Season in Guatemala this past season was up to its usual standard of large numbers of sailfish and billfish raised - in some cases despite the unpredictable weather and climatic events.
Despite some follow on tremors, the huge earthquake in Chile did not have any effect on the fishing in Guatemala. The boats went to sea in search of sailfish, but with a cautious eye towards the waves as the possibility of a rolling tsunami existed.
